DRUM TOUR : Costa Rica 2009, January 7-16th

9 days of Drum & Dance

“Take dance out of the studio, into the jungle and then integrate it in your everyday life.”

This journey through the magical jungle of Costa Rica will be unforgettable!
The rich atmosphere will allow us to take in deeper breaths of rejuvenating energy,
filling our bodies up with the desire to drum and dance.
Like the active volcanoes of the land, this retreat holds space for us to overflow.

Adelaide and Leilainia of The Shimmy Sisters will be at this 9-day drum retreat as facilitators of movement. Adelaide will hold inner discovery classes/workshops primarily based on Belly Dance technique. Leilainia will help you explore the spiritual journeys within belly dance and yoga while giving you new perspectives on muscle, mind and spirit connection. We will bring out the personal stories within all of our dance.

Along side sharing there developed teaching skills and guiding meditations, Adelaide and Leilainia will focus on what it is you personally want to try, learn or master. These workshops are intended to guide.  The experience is open to all levels from beginner to advanced. They will assist in the process of charka opening and help strengthen your connection to earth and the heavens. This type of learning improves skills at a much faster rate and will for many of you, change your life in a very positive way.

What better place to do this than Costa Rica ? : A place that surrounds you by every element - Jungle, Water, Volcanoes and Pure Air. There are no scheduled class times as we will create the time as a community after arrival.  We have the option to hike and dance near the sounds of our personal drummer(s), flowing waterfalls or howling monkeys. Each person has ownership over their time and can pick to venture off and zip line above tree tops or shimmy their hearts off down below.

Adelaide and Leilania will teach both separately and together sharing their personal masteries as well as their unmatchable dynamic as a duo. They plan on teaching groups (weather large or small).
The experience of Belly Dance is sharing and relating to one another in this connected state of creation.

There will be nightly drum circles and open chanting led my master drummer Reid DeFever with grooves to move by from Brazil, Cuba, Africa, India and Asia. Each night will be ignited with rhythms in which you can join in, implement all that you’ve learned and/or simply unleash the urges and powers we all have inside. Plus there will be a benefit show the last day of the retreat that we can all participate in! Can’t wait!

Shimmy Sisters workshop bio
As students of life and teachers of dance the Shimmy Sisters have made the connection between their knowledge of Belly Dance and the practice of inner discovery. Adelaide and Leilainia of the Shimmy Sisters understand that becoming in touch with the body enlivens sensitivity, cultivates strength, and gives us a sense of home. In their workshops and classes the sisters share a mixture of spoken knowledge, visualizations, and movement. They explore dance in relation to the charka's as a type of meditative practice in motion. They have gained insight through yoga, world medicine and Qi Gong, yet the intuition brought forth through physical movement and exploration has made clear the link between these spiritual practices and their connection with Belly Dance. Most importantly they want to give those who participate the skills and foundation to explore deeper.
